*I saw a plugin for DIVI where Portfolio can be formatted this way displaying smaller thumbnails, Titles and text on the right and subcategories menu on the top - very handy for organizing a small directory of resources like tutorials or businesses. Let me know if you will consider doing something similar. I will purchase more support time then. Thanks

I'm wondering if 2 columns layout with text underneath each picture can be changed into http://soledad.pencidesign.com/soledad-magazine/category/travel/ where picture is on the left and the text is on the right?

Yeah, you can change layout for your category page via Customize > Category, Tag, Search, Archive Layout.
