Unfortunately, currently this theme doens't support this feature and I don't know any plugin can do that.
I think on this site: https://www.thepoortraveler.net/destinations/ - they hired a wordpress developer to help them make that feature.

Are you saying that something like https://codecanyon.net/item/interactive-world-maps/2874264?ref=wpexplorer or https://codecanyon.net/item/mapplic-custom-interactive-map-wordpress-plugin/6800158?ref=sekler wouldn't work on the theme?

Because I don't know any plugin for this feature ( wordpress have millions of plugins and of course I can't know all )
But, if you find that plugins, you can ask author of that plugins from comments of this plugin about that feature.
