When I first got the Soledad Theme I was working on it and I didn't know about the child theme, I recently updated my theme to the latest version but everything was gone once I did the update so I restored it the previous version. I want to create a child theme so I can do the update without losing anything I've done to my site. I need help creating the child theme and updating the theme to the latest version.
This theme already supports child theme. You can get child theme by go to download page, re-download "All files and documentation". After that, extract this download package and you will see soledad-child.zip file.
Now, if you want to keep all your edited, you need to backup all your changes, copy all the files from latest version of parent theme to child theme and put your edited there.
After that, update parent theme to latest version.
Also, you can use plugin Customize Export/Import to export customizer data from parent theme and import to child theme.
So I followed your steps and got everything running but once I installed the soledad theme version 5 the child theme is sort of broken. the feature images don't show and the feature slider only shows 3 posts where before it would show up to 10 I believe. I kept the same child theme from previous version... I don't know if I was supposed to upload the latest version of the child theme as well. Please help

Hi,
When you update the theme, you need to update all the files you did copy from parent theme to make sure it can inherit parent theme.
Let's backup all the changes you did on child theme and do like I said above.
