For Q2, If i go to setting of writing to set default post format to image, and then i add new post , the image format will show up. however, it still does not all the selection of post format. As regard to the published post, there is still no image post format selection.
You need to pick images to your gallery posts and on that space - it will display a slider.
Make sure you installed plugin Vafpress Post Formats UI - If not, go to Appearance > Install Plugins > and install & active it. After that, go to edit that posts, you can see options above the posts title to pick images for your gallery posts.
Q1 I set my post format as gallery, i find that featured image only shows on homepage not on category page.
