we are currently working on some changes for the upcoming GDPR. For that we need to disable the required fields in the comments form.
So I disabled:
Comment author must fill out name and email
at: Settings -> Discussion -> Other comment settings
But the comment form still wants to have name and email address no matter what. Second, if you provide those and you want to comment, we get an alert saying: Attention: You have not accepted the data protection information. (translated from German)
There is no checkbox for accepting those terms. Is that something soledad hasn't implemented yet? Or are we using an old version (Soledad 5.0)?
1/ When you un-checked to Settings -> Discussion -> Other comment settings -> Comment author must fill out name and email - The email & name fields will not required. And you need to change the text for "Name*" and "Email*" to "Name" and "Email" via Quick Text Translation - check this image
2/ For the terms on comment form, we've added it in the latest version of this theme. Please update your theme to latest version 5.2 - check this guide to know how to update this theme to latest version:
Hey I updated the plugin and changed the setting ( Enable GDPR message on Comment Form) as described. But I still get no checkbox under the comment form.
So lets focus on the problem here. Our users can't comment, because of the error they get.
How can I fix that?
You told me, I need to enable the GDPR Options of the theme. I did that, hasn't worked. What you see now is generated by the plugin "Cookie Notice by dfactory" because we obviously need a Cookie Bar in order to be compliant. I can't turn it off and wait for your response. We have about 10.000 Visitors per day.
Here is the way this theme work for GDPR - you should know about this:
1/ When you enable the popup for GDPR on the footer - the popup will appears on the footer like on this image
2/ The notice message on the comment form will tell with the readers that:
When your readers use that comment form - that mean they agree with your privacy policy. - No need for any checkbox here. And this message doesn't affect to your readers can comment or not.
No - The cookie popup doesn't related with user can comment or not. The owner of websites just need tell with customers about privacy policy. If they make comments - that mean they agree with your policy.
Our GDPR policy from this theme doesn't affect to your comment. If you can't comment - let's check again your plugins. Seem you have a plugin blocked it. Please try deactivate all plugins ( except plugins come from this theme ) and try it again. After it work, let's enable each plugin to check what's plugin caused this issue.

Hey I updated the plugin and changed the setting ( Enable GDPR message on Comment Form) as described. But I still get no checkbox under the comment form.
Hi,
For the checkbox, you need to alert for all customers first - when users visited your site.
And you can enable that popup via Customize > General Options.

So without accepting the cookie popup, no one can comment?
Hi,
No - The cookie popup doesn't related with user can comment or not. The owner of websites just need tell with customers about privacy policy. If they make comments - that mean they agree with your policy.
