    I would like to create a special sidebar that includes different categories such as ingredients, meal type etc.

    1. I would like to be able to select which categories those are for each page
    2. Also would like to use a filtering system if that is possible?

    Hi,

    1/ You can use custom sidebar to do that.

    Please go to Appearance > Widgets > drag & drop widgets you want to display to "Custom Sidebar 1" or "Custom Sidebar 2".... or "Custom Sidebar 10"

    After that, go to Posts > Categories > edit category you want to use the custom sidebar > and select custom sidebar for this category.

    2/ Unfortunately, the category pages doesn't support for filter system.
