I'm using Style 4 for Single Post (full-width featured image), which I really like. But, here's my thought:
- If I used a nice looking Featured Image (1920x1080 px, 500 kB), the featured image looks great on the Single Post, but when loading the homepage (where Latest Posts are listed), if affects the size of the homepage - also the thumbnail on the homepage has 500 kB, it's only resized, not downsized.
- So if I'm trying to have as much speed and data oriented site as possible, I need to reduce the size of the thumbnail on the homepage. But the only way I found was to downsize the Featured Image (e.g. 480x320 px, 50 kB), which on the other hand makes the Featured Image in the Single Post look horrible.
My question here - is there a way how to upload a nice looking Featured Image (e.g. HD quality) but to force the Soledad theme to use a downsized thumbnail in Latest Post on Homepage?
You just need to use an optimize images plugin to do that.
I recommend you use plugin Optimus – WordPress Image Optimizer - this plugin reduces the file size of uploaded media files automatically. Depending on the image and format, reductions in size of up to 70% are possible.
if I would use an optimizer, it will still decrease the image quality. If there now other way to do it?
When uploading a featured image, WP automatically creates several version of that file (original size, 1024x..., 1170x..., 780x..., etc). Isn't there a way how to force the theme to use a resized image on the homepage and still keep the full quality image in the post header itself?
But, when WordPress crop the images, the size of images still quite high like you said ( thumbnail on the homepage has 500 kB ) - that's why I recommend you use an optimize image plugin
Let's try with the plugin for optimize an image to test it. I think it will be fine.
hm, nope, as far as I inspected the homepage source code, that's not the way the theme does it now. It takes the original image and only adopt it's resolution via CSS, but doesn't use the resized image from WP. Please see screenshot attached.
Ahh, if so you didn't regenerate thumbnails from the theme.
Please install & activate plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/ After that, go to Dashboard > Tools > Regenerate Thumbnails > and click to regenerate thumbnails for the theme and wait until it done.

Hi,
it's not a theme-preinstalled-featured image, it's a featured image which I uploaded after the theme was installed.
Hi,
I just checked your site and I see your homepage featured images is quite small.
Can you please upload an image with at lease 1170px width and 780px height to I can check it?
