My hosting company has told me that there is potentially an error with the theme of my wordpress site as the initial loading (grey loading circle in Chrome) is taking a very long time.
My website takes upto 20 seconds to resolve - this ISN'T the website loading time, that is fast. This is the time it takes "Waiting for https://www.thehairchronicle.com..."
No - that's lazyload images - it helps your site load faster. If you don't want to use lazyload images, you can disable lazyload images from the theme via:
Disable lazyload images on category mega menu on Customize > Logo and Header Options
Disable lazyload images on all layouts, widgets on Customize > General Options
Disable lazyload images on featured slider on Customize > Featured Slider Options
Disable lazyload images on single posts page on Customize > Single Post Options
As I checked, your hosting take a few time to response the website requests.
So, I'm sure this is not issues related with the theme itself. It come from your hosting or plugins.
Maybe you should check with your plugins first ( let's try deactivate all plugins and check it again. If it loads faster, let's activate each plugin to check what's plugin make your site loads slower )
