I added the code, but now ads only appear in the header and footer. Is there somewhere else I am meant to be placing this code in the theme so ads appear in the content?
The google adsense auto ads will auto place the ads on random places on your site. And you can't be control where the ads display with google automatic ads.

I am trying to set up Google Adsense on my website.
For automatic ad placement it advises "Paste it into the HTML of http://www.website, between the and tags"
Can I do this with the theme. I have tried adding it to the customize area and when I add the code Google says they can't find it.

If you need to put the code between <head> tag - you can put the code to Customize > Logo and Header Options > Add Custom Code Inside <head> Tags
