Hello, I have created a child theme, so that I can make some additional edits to the soledad theme without breaking anything however, when I install the child theme, the layout of my pages and posts break.
Is there something in the Soledad theme that is preventing a child theme or some extra step needed for this theme?
In this scenario, you should activate the parent theme again. Then, navigate to Appearance → Customize to export all the current customizer data. After that, re-activate the child theme and go to Appearance → Customize to import the exported data.
While I definitely appreciate the effort. The problem is not resolved and I see no visible change. I have flushed the cache and tried this on several computers to be sure.
To recreate the problem. Set the theme to the default soledad theme, then click on the Food & Drink page in the main menu. Check out the layout. There are are some repeats of stories as I'm building and checking things out, but everything works and there are no visible errors.
Now switch the theme to the child BV theme, and refresh the the Food & Drink page. the queries are messed up. Some of the stories have changed, and others are not found at all.
Scroll down and little and you'll see that what worked fine on the main theme is completely broken on the child theme.
The issue is that when switching to the child theme, the cache and Elementor PRO plugin can't load files on your site. (You can check by editing the page with Elementor; all the elements are displayed correctly.)

Please try clearing all server cache.
